Longview Farm Hiring Multiple Positions in Plymouth, New Hampshire – 2020 Season
Longview Farm is a 60 acre mixed vegetable operation. We grow a diverse assortment of vegetables, including asparagus, sweet corn, and loads of tomatoes. We also grow strawberries and cut flowers. All of our products are sold direct-to-consumer through our open air farm stand and through local farmers’ markets. We strive to build healthy soils and grow nutritious and delicious produce. Our growing practices include using both organic and conventional methods.
The farm has been a dairy farm for over 40 years, and in vegetable production for just about 40 years. Regina and Nate began leasing the land in 2017 to operate the vegetable business. They are in the process of purchasing the farm Spring 2020 to continue the legacy.
We have several jobs to choose from, all of which can be either full or part-time hours. We have also hired individuals to fulfill a combination of these positions.
Longview Farm Field Crew – Job Description
What to Expect:
Daily field work, tasks, and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: weeding, irrigating, harvesting, washing of vegetables, seeding, transplanting, and field maintenance.
Work Ethic & Expectations:
Field work requires self-motivation, focus during the work day, a strong work ethic, ability to work with a team, stay positive in the midst of monotonous work, and have an interest in and/or willingness to learn about agriculture. The ability to work outdoors, lift heavy materials, use hand tools, and get dirty, are all components to a typical day.
Farm Crew employees must arrive to work on time and be prepared to work in any kind of weather.
Safety:
Closed-toe shoes are required for field work. Sun hats, sun block as needed, taking water breaks, wearing proper clothing or rain gear, are all methods for staying safe during the work day, and are the responsibility of each individual. This position requires moving and lifting weight of 50 lbs. or more, practicing safe lifting methods is encouraged.
All positions are paid an hourly rate. Full-time employees receive 2 unpaid days off during the week. The farm crew schedule will vary based on the season, April-June 8am-4:30pm, July-October 7am-3:30pm, including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break (these times may change due to weather, harvest needs, or other circumstances).
Wash Station/Stand Back-up – Job Description
What to Expect:
All of our produce is picked fresh daily, and must be washed immediately post-harvest. The stand crew and the wash station work as a team to keep the stand stocked with products. The core responsibilities include: washing produce to specified standards, maintaining a clean work space, packaging produce, backing up the stand crew, packing special orders, assisting in any task related to the stand or vegetable washing.
Work Ethic & Expectations:
The wash station requires individuals who are self-motivated, focused, have a strong work ethic, are attentive to detail, have an interest in agriculture and knowledge of vegetables, ability to be flexible and work as a positive team member.
All employees must arrive to work on time and prepared to work in any kind of weather.
Safety:
The wash station gets wet and requires individuals to be on their feet for long periods of time. Wearing appropriate clothes and closed-toe and slip resistant shoes is the employees’ responsibility. This position requires lifting containers weighing up to 50 lbs.; practicing safe lifting methods is encouraged.
Longview Farm Stand Retail Associate – Job Description
What to Expect:
The farm stand is a customer service position. We seek to present our quality produce in a manner that is clean, appealing, and highlights the vegetables themselves. The core responsibilities of this job are: open or close the stand, conduct sales transactions, assist customers, stock the stand, communicate with farm managers to maintain veggie back-up inventory, take customer orders, cleaning work areas/washing bins, washing of and/or packaging of vegetables.
Work Ethic & Expectations:
The farm stand requires individuals who are honest, self-motivated, focused, have a strong work ethic, ability to work with a team, interest in and/or willingness to learn about agriculture, knowledge of vegetables, ability to use or learn to use a cash register and iPad-based POS system.
Farm stand employees must arrive to work on time and be prepared to work in any kind of weather.
All positions are paid an hourly rate. Full-time employees receive 2 unpaid days off during the week.
Safety:
The stand is an open building, so wearing and bringing weather-appropriate clothing is the employee’s responsibility. This position requires moving and lifting containers weighing up to 50 lbs., practicing safe lifting methods is encouraged. This position involves significant time on the feet as well.
Work Schedule & Compensation
All positions are paid an hourly rate, starting pay is $10.50/hour with the opportunity for a pay raise based on work performance. Full-time employees receive 2 unpaid days off during the week. Farm Crew positions are April/May-October. Farm Crew works an 8-hour day starting between 6:00am-7:00am depending on seasonal needs.
The stand hours are 9-6pm, Sunday-Saturday, June-October. We will have some seasonal hours in May and October. Employees receive a 30-minute unpaid break. Stand hours vary based on our shift schedule needs. Wash Station Crew arrives prior to harvest at 6:00am to prepare for wash/pack and stand set-up.
We grow LOTS of vegetables and we want our employees to share in this nutritious abundance. We’ve come up with a simple health & wellness plan to encourage everyone to eat what we are growing.
Each hour you work in one day is equal to $1.00 that can be spent at the stand. For example: if you work a 4-hour Stand shift, you have $4.00 Employee Dollars to spend on vegetables at the Stand. Anything over $4.00 you will have to purchase with our own money. Employee Dollars may not be spent on strawberries, or any items designated as being limited on that day. During corn season, each employee may take home a dozen ear of corn on the day of your scheduled shift.
Hours and dollars do not accumulate over time, and must be spent on your scheduled work day.
Sometimes we have a “seconds” bin–vegetables that are not suitable for sale on the Stand. Items in this bin are free for the taking at the end of the work day. All employees receive a 10% discount on bulk buys.
