10/8 Honeybee Field Day *TONIGHT* 5:30 – 8:00 pm at the UMES Apiary, Prince Anne, MD. Learn the basics of keeping bees, the issues causing honeybee decline, and enjoy a honey tasting. 10/19 Maryland Small Ruminant Pasture Grazing and Browsing Conference 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at the University of Maryland’s Western Maryland Research & Education Center, Keedysville, MD Speakers will include Dr. Amanda Grev, Pasture Management Specialist, University of Maryland Extension; Matt Morris, Extension Educator, Frederick County; Erika Crowl, Extension Educator, Baltimore County; Maegan Purdue, Extension Educator, Worcester County; Jeff Semler, Extension Educator, Washington County; and Susan Schoenian, Sheep & Goat Specialist, University of Maryland Extension. 10/24 Woody Perennials for Cut Flowers 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at Butterbee Farm, Pikesville, MD. Join farmer and owner Laura Beth Resnick for a tour of Butterbee Farm’s 3-acre space, with special attention given to woody perennials. Learn how investing time and money into perennial plantings will pay off with heaps of foliage and blooms, and attract more designers and customers.Bring a dish to share and continue the discussion over a potluck style lunch with Laura Beth. $20 members; $40 non-members. 11/4 Post-Harvest Handling and Wholesale Readiness – Leonardtown 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at St. Mary’s County Farm Service Agency and Sassafras Creek Farm, Leonardtown, MD. The economic success of fruit and vegetable production is highly dependent on post harvest quality preservation. This full-day workshop will ensure growers are meeting industry quality standards in harvest techniques, packing, grading, pack size, packaging, and shelf-life. The day will begin with a classroom instruction and include hands-on, on-farm training in the afternoon. Lunch and all training materials are included. This event is made possible through funding from Town Creek Foundation, with additional support from SMADC. $20/attendee. $10/for BFTP. Register HERE.
