Easy Yoke Farm Internship in Minnesota
Farm Internship on Easy Yoke Farm in Minnesota – 2019
For the 2019 growing season, Hannah and Daniel Miller are looking to add an enthusiastic person or couple to their existing crew on their 30 acre farm (10 in vegetables) near Zumbro Falls, Mn.
The Millers are especially interested in individuals or a couple who are passionate and/or experienced in vegetable farming and would like to work alongside successful, experienced farmers and learn what it takes to start and sustain a small-scale vegetable farm.
Easy Yoke Farm interns will get to work with our innovative small-scale farming techniques including greenhouse and high tunnel cultivation, electric tractor weed-management, cutting-edge organic soil management, working toward “net-zero” energy projects, and so much more. Easy Yoke Farm interns will have a unique opportunity to learn hands-on with us in the field and get to be part of all aspects of the vegetable operation. Along with field work, harvesting, and planting, Interns will also have the opportunity to work in a really fun farmers market environment in Rochester, MN. There will also be the opportunity to connect socially with our organic farming neighbors and their interns at our weekly community potlucks. We are proud to be part of a really fun community of veggie farmers and it is always a highlight of the summer to connect with that group in work and play.
This is a farmhand position but could be a great experience for someone wanting to take the next step toward running their own efficient small-scale farm. This person will be working directly with Daniel and crew on daily basis. Planting, cultivating and harvesting will be the main responsibilities. They will also will help with Easy Yoke Farm deliveries to co-ops and the weekly farmers market stand in Rochester – which is really fun!
Experience is appreciated but not necessary. The new crew member should enjoy hard manual labor and be able to work well and efficiently alone and in a small group to achieve daily farm goals.
Qualified applicants for the Easy Yoke Farm internship will need to be in good physical shape and be able to work 8 hours a day outside thru the growing season. The Millers strive to be sane and sustainable in their work structure, but it is essential that our workers are quick and efficient in all their responsibilities.
Hannah and Daniel, recipients of the first John Kinsman Beginning Farmer Food Sovereignty Prize, were both tutored by organic farming pioneers and are now in their 9th season of farming. They have
experience helping others start farming and believe they have a lot to offer aspiring farmers.
A shared furnished apartment is included with the position as well as a competitive hourly depending on experience. The position will be open until filled.
