Sweet Rowen Farmstead Dairy Internship in Vermont – 2018

The internship program at Sweet Rowen Farmstead is a multi-disciplined opportunity to work and learn about small scale dairy farming and milk processing.

Sweet Rowen Farmstead produces high quality grass-fed milk and cheese.  We are located in East Albany, in Vermont’s North East Kingdom, in the heart of a vibrant farming community. We milk about 30 cows, breeding for endangered, heritage Lineback cattle. We produce all our own hay during the summer for our winter feed and move the cows to fresh pasture every 12 hours throughout the grazing season. We bottle about 500 gallons of milk per week, and make about ten different types of fresh and aged cheeses. We supply about 50 stores, restaurants, and schools around Vermont and attend three farmers markets every weekend throughout the summer.

Our internship is demanding and requires that interns have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Much of the internship’s work includes twice daily farm chores, milk processing and creamery work, and farmers markets.

Applicants for the Dairy Internship in Vermont with all levels of experience are encouraged to apply.  We welcome interns to share innovative ideas, and create a project they are interested in. We have many building projects planned for the next year so interns with carpentry experience are a plus. We also encourage interns to take the opportunity to meet and work with the many neighboring farmers and learn about what they are doing. A DRIVER’S LICENSE IS REQUIRED.
