Land’s Sake Farm and Forest Assistant Educator with Land’s Sake Farm

Farm and Forest             

Farm and Forest is a farm and outdoor education program dedicated to building meaningful community and connections to the land for children in grades 1-4 in nine independent full-week sessions throughout the summer. The program runs from 8:30-3:30 and includes time for snack and lunch for the first eight weeks, and will run from 9:00-4:00 for the week of August 21. Daily activities include garden projects, arts and crafts, animal chores, tree climbing, games, harvesting produce to bring home, and exploring our natural landscape.

Position Summary:

Land’s Sake Farm seeks an Assistant Educator for our Farm and Forest summer program.  The person in this position must be able to work from 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday from June 25, 2018 to August 17, 2018, from 8:30-4:30 from August 20-24, 2018 and to attend staff training days during the week of June 19th. There will be the option for part-time hours the week of August 27. The Land’s Sake Farm and Forest Assistant Educator’s primary goal is to deliver high quality summer programs. With support from the Farm and Forest Lead Educator, the Farm and Forest Assistant Educator is responsible for implementing the Land’s Sake Farm and Forest program. This position will include the additional responsibilities of: assisting with Education Garden preparation and maintenance, assisting with livestock care, general branch and organizational development and other non-education related tasks. The Farm and Forest Assistant Educator works collaboratively with other staff to effectively manage the inherent risks of working on a farm, maintain our unique farm aesthetic, teach and follow best management practices for sustainable food production. Collaboration and effective communication between the other branches of the organization are vital for this job; along with all staff, the Farm and Forest Assistant Educator works diligently to carry out mission oriented goals and objectives.

 

Farm and Forest Lead Educator with Land’s Sake Farm

Position Summary

Land’s Sake Farm seeks a Lead Educator for our Farm and Forest summer program.  The person in this position must be able to work from 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday from June 25, 2018 to August 17, 2018, from 8:30-4:30 from August 20-24, 2018 and to attend staff training days during the week of June 19th. There will be the option for part-time hours the week of August 27. Working closely with the Education Manager, Land’s Sake Farm and Forest Lead Educator will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality educational programming for up to 12 elementary school youth for week-long, full day summer programs. The Land’s Sake Farm and Forest Lead Educator will be provided with a consistent daily schedule and programming ideas, and will have opportunity to bring their passions and interest to the programming, choose activities and games, and design curriculum.

Successful candidates will be highly motivated, organized, great with teaching a range of ages, experienced in behavior management, and a team player. Previous farm or garden experience is a must as well as comfort working around a variety of animals including chickens, rabbits, sheep, and goats. Other helpful skills include experience cooking ability, carpentry skills, artistic ability, etc. This position will include the additional responsibilities of: assisting with Education Garden preparation and maintenance, assisting with livestock care, general branch and organizational development and other non-education related tasks. Green Power Assistant Educator with Land’s Sake Farm

Green Power Program at Land’s Sake Farm

The Green Power program engages youth entering grades 5-8 and offers eight independent weeks of full day sessions through the summer.  This program is a local food immersion program focused on all aspects of food… growing, planting, cultivating, harvesting, distributing, and eating.  Students participate in growing the Junior Farmer field, go on local agriculture field trips, participate in livestock management, learn about the hunger relief organizations Land’s Sake partners with, and cook a community meal with a chef.

Land’s Sake Farmstand Manager Job Description

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

Full time, seasonal, at-will position (May – October)

Land’s Sake Farm is a nonprofit farm located in Weston, MA. Land’s Sake Farm strives to connect individuals to the land to build community and inspire lifelong stewardship. Land’s Sake is currently looking for a Farm Stand Manager (approx. a 7-month position) to run the retail side of the Farm Stand, as well as oversee the hiring, scheduling and management of summer Farm Stand staff. The seasonal Farm Stand serves as the hub of the Farm from June through October, and each year we assemble an awesome team to sell our vegetables, guide and educate our community, occasionally battle chipmunks, and have a lot of fun doing it. The Land’s Sake Farm Stand is the face of the Farm, and the proper running of the Farm Stand is key in maintaining our relations with the public and helping to coordinate many of the events that we hold on the Farm every year. Because this position straddles so many areas of the Farm it will report to both the Executive Director and the Farm Director. The Land’s Sake Farm Stand Manager position will report to the Executive Director (in matters of outside marketing, vendor relations, and staffing) and will report to the Land’s Sake Farm Director in matters of produce ordering, management and handling.

Vital qualities for this position are: great customer service skills, an ability to work quickly and efficiently, knowledge of farming, organized, enjoys being outside and flexibility. Interest in sustainable agriculture, local food systems, and/or cooking is a plus.In order to communicate with customers as to how they can become more involved with Land’s Sake, Farm Stand staff are trained about the organization’s many offerings.
