Red Russian Kale Picture, Beautiful
This picture was shared on the Beginning Farmers facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NewFarmers
I’m sharing it first of all because I think it’s an amazing photograph, but also because the person who took it was wondering what might be causing the protrusions on the leaf. Has anyone ever seen this kind of morphology in Red Russian? Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever paid enough attention to know whether it is unusual or not.
If it is unusual, does anyone have any idea what might be causing it? Click the comment text in the upper left to leave a message.
In my own experience of growing thousands of sold bunches of Red Russian Kale, this is just part of the natural random leaf morphology of the variety. Beautiful photo!!!
This is my first time growing Russian Red. I have the same thing. Interesting. I guess we can think of it as bonus leaves.
I see this every year on my Russian Kale. I wonder if they will root if pinned down to the soil. Other plants can be propogated that way.
Interesting question Jan.
