Organic Farming Job Opportunity in Washington State Type: Full-time, Seasonal (May through December, 2012) Compensation: $10.00-$12.00 hour depending on experience Job Title:  Harvest & Processing Coordinator (HPC) Oxbow is a 25 acre organic farm and education center located on a 100 acre wilderness preserve in the Snoqualmie Valley in Carnation, WA 25 miles east of Seattle.  We have a 400 member CSA, sell at 3 farmers markets, and supply over 20 restaurants and 3 grocery stores with our goods.  We also have a vibrant youth education program and are actively working with a number of non-profit organizations to restore the native habitat and vegetation around our fields and on our river banks. This position works in constant communication with the farm manager and the field lead to coordinate all aspects of the day to day harvest and pack out within the processing area. The first set of responsibilities will be solely the HPC's. The second set, the HPC will be performing these tasks as well as managing and coordinating other crew members in these tasks.

1) HPC will be solely responsible for:

-Organizing harvest

-coordinating daily produce pack out

-Filling out harvest board from compilation of collated Pick sheet and CSA product list

-counting out bands and advising harvest crew of harvest order

-setting and maintain quality standards

-keeping up to date inventory of storage crop and roll over items in cooler

-conducting quality control before shipping items

-preparing for the next day’s harvest, rotating and maintaining order in cooler and in wash station

-organizing harvest tool, and supply room inventory

-keeping crop logs up to date

2) HPC will be responsible for, and manage crew in, the following activities:

-organizing cooler for efficient rotation and pack out

-Assisting with the harvest and processing as needed

-Packing out CSA boxes

-loading market and delivery vehicles

Requirements:

packing shed experience preferred but not required

-ability to lift 60 plus pounds on a regular basis

-attentive mind for attention to detail and ability to multitask

-willingness to work in inclement conditions

-adaptability between working in team setting and working independently

 -ability to receive constructive criticism gracefully

-ability to give constructive criticism gracefully

-no criminal history

-current Washington state drivers license

Hours: May-December, Monday -Friday, 6:45am-3:45ish pm. Estimated total hours – 1,285

This position is on average 40 hours a week from May through December with the hours per day fluctuating throughout the season depending on the need. I.e., May and June may be slightly less than 40 hrs a week, while July through October will be over 40 hours a week, cutting back to 40 hrs or below starting in November through the second week of December.

These hours are a speculated forecast and may fluctuate with the actual needs of the farm
