Orchard Assistant Job in Malone, WI – Fall 2017

Orchard Assistant Job: The Little Farmer, an apple orchard involved in agritourism, is looking for a year round assistant to our Orchard Manager.

The Little Farmer is settled on 139 acres and its fourth generation of ownership. Originally a dairy farm starting in 1866 it has evolved, thanks to the current owner, into a Fall Agritourism destination specializing in apple growing, homemade caramel, and school tours.

The position requires the applicant to be comfortable working with general shop tools, lawnmowers, landscaping tools, sprayers, and ladders. Mechanical maintenance, grounds keeping maintenance, and apple orchard experience are positives but not a must. A willingness to learn and an ability to learn and be taught are expected. An applicant needs the ability to drive, or be comfortable with learning, tractors, golf carts, 4-wheelers, pick-up trucks, and skid steer.

Seasonal duties, August-November, include, but not limited to, Lead Pickers (being in charge of a crew of 3-6 pickers picking apples and pumpkins) and ground/building maintenance. Must have the ability to work weekends.

Off season duties, December-July, include, but not limited to, ground and building maintenance, and orchard and field work. Must be comfortable using pesticides and herbicides, and working in all weather conditions.

Orchard Assistant Job Compensation:

-Pay is $10/hr but can vary based on experience

-After 90 days of full time employment, and approval of Orchard Manager, the employee receives 2 paid vacation days and entrance to our HRA insurance program

-Further learning programs can be considered
