Farm Internships in New Jersey at The Potato Homestead LLC
The Potato Homestead is a 1.5 acre farm in Sewell, NJ run by husband and wife Rob and Alex McKeage. We produce fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers for 3 farmers markets, wholesale accounts, and a small CSA. We consider our farm “Truly Organic” meaning we do not use ANY pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or use wasteful farming practices. We rarely use heavy machinery, we do not use disposable plastic mulch, we limit our produce packaging to biodegradable/recycled materials, and we re-use as much of the washing water as possible. We learned how to farm by taking internships on other farms and now we’d like to pass it on!
No experience is necessary, but it is always a plus. Reliable transportation and driver’s license are required. Interns will be exposed to all aspects of running a small farm including crop planning, seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing, packing, marketing, and so much more! Internship hours are M-F 8am-noon. We expect our team (ourselves included!) to be on time and ready to work rain or shine. Weekly breakfast/lunch meetings allow us to all sit together to answer intern questions, discuss important farming topics, and relax together in the garden. This is considered a valuable educational experience, however we do offer a stipend: $100/week + all the veggies you can eat. Ideal interns will be available to start training in April with full hours beginning in May running through September (we are flexible on start and end date). Additional hours and pay are available for those interested in going to market. Housing is potentially available for the right candidate. We are happy to sign off for college credits as well.
