Guidry organic farms is a family owned farm business operating on about 100 acres in two locations along the coteau ridge just north of Lafayette, Louisiana. We are in year three of start up and the farm has a long way to go before it is the complete, certified organic, farm to table, visitor destination, and profitable business that we have set out to develop. We make pecan oil, nut butter, eggs, honey and lamb meat this far and look to start berries and vegetables this fall.
Throughout summer of 2016, I need to find one or two individuals that can help grow the farm as they grow themselves. Our website is guidryorganicfarms.com
This is the first year of our intern program and our requirements for an intern are simply that he or she is hardworking and has a good attitude and passion for farming. If we could find someone who has experience in vegetables at the 520 acre scale, that would be excellent as wears also looking for an assistant manager for vegetables this fall. As an intern at it farm you would be expected to work 6 days a week but no more than 30 hours a week. Tasks would include rotation of livestock, collecting and washing eggs, hoof trimming, tagging and record keeping, brooding 500 chicks, working with honey bees, working in a food processing facility in all facets of pecan oil and nut butter production, fencing and farm upkeep.
We provide housing just down the road from the farm within biking distance with shared utilities, and a stipend of $200/week. We would like an intern to commit to a 6 month stay after a 2 week evaluation period. As an intern you will be working directly with the farm manager and will get first hand insight in the process and planning of a farm startup. Additionally, there exists the opportunity of long term employment for someone who integrates well with the farm and wishes to stay after their internship
