Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture Farm Manager Job to Oversee Operation and Improve Productivity of Multiple Urban Farms – Atlanta, Georgia – 2016 

Position Objective: The Farm Manager has primary responsibility for coordination the work and activity at Truly Living Well farm sites to maintain continuous availability of fresh, naturally and organically grown food for sales and programming. The Farm Manager assists the COO in fulfilling the organization’s mission to grow better communities by connecting people with their food and the land through education, training and demonstration of economic success in natural urban agriculture. The Farm Manager works to ensure natural and sustainable production methods that deliver higher quality food, enhance the environment and improve human health.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple farm sites.

Supervise farmers and farm crews.

Create and implement farm plans with COO to include:

Seed ordering, material, supplies and equipment acquisition

Greenhouse management and plant propagation

Planning and implementation of weekly planting schedule for seeding, transplanting.

Insect and weed control, fertility monitoring, and general field observation

Cultivation activities

Harvest and storage

Infrastructure planning, creation, maintenance and repair

Irrigation planning and implementation

Soil-building program including composting

Coordinate production requirements with CEO.

Provide continuous accurate and timely communication to leadership, operations, programming and sales about food and harvesting to facilitate effective planning, promotion and selling of food to CSA members, restaurants and other revenue generating opportunities.

Support education and training initiatives on farm.

Teach, mentor and supervise farm trainees, interns, volunteers and others

Conduct tours of farm sites; engage groups and support other education and training initiatives as needed

Provide professional representation of the organization to build partnerships and opportunities for expansion, growth and development.

Special Requirements:

Work in field, greenhouse, outdoor classroom and/or office.

Must be able to perform hard and repetitive physical work; must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 40 lbs. repetitively.

Flexible schedule a must; evening and weekend hours required.

Current driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to drive trucks and operate farm equipment.

Qualifications:

Creative leader with strong commitment to the organizations mission and vision; desire for long term relationship to help organization grow

An ecological sense, knowledge of dynamic interplay between food system, farming, natural world, society and individuals

Excellent knowledge and experience in natural and organic farming

A minimum of 3 years of full-season agricultural farm management and planning

Knowledge of farm infrastructure

Basic carpentry skills, irrigation, and farm machinery/ small engine maintenance and repair is preferred

Supervisory experience with more than4 farm workers

Strong communication skills; ability to work well with team and community members

Experience and interest in working with diverse populations – different ages and various economic, social and political backgrounds

The ability to be self-motivated and to motivate others

Must be able to demonstrate effective time management, flexibility, integrity and cooperation

Entrepreneurial spirit and drive along with record of working in successful partnerships
