Tangleroot Farm Job for 2016 – Essex, New York
Tangleroot Farm is a 20 acre vegetable farm in the heart of the Champlain Valley in Essex, New York. They grow using organic practices to provide food for their 80 member CSA, two farmers’ markets and sale to local restaurants. They farm intensively on 2 acres with the remaining acreage in pasture for some cows, pigs and have plans to add an orchard this Spring. You can learn more about them at tanglerootfarm.com.
Job Responsibilities
The owners, Susan and Adam, are looking for a full time farm hand, experience preferred but not necessary, willing to work hard on activities such as harvesting, transplanting, weeding, washing, packaging and pruning vegetables. Farming is a physically demanding job and an applicant should be able to lift 50lbs, be outside in all weather conditions, and be physically fit enough to be on his or her feet all day, moving. Work is 40 hrs/wk and the owners, employee and volunteers work alongside each other on daily farm tasks so there will be an opportunity to train and mentor employees on various aspects of intensive vegetable farming. Work is 7am-4pm with an hour for lunch. If you’re looking to gain experience in organic vegetable farming and willing to work hard, this is an ideal place to start. Looking for someone early June through September. Start and end dates are flexible however, employees should be willing to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
