Lead Gardener Position on Small Farm in Indiana

Red Barn on the FarmMichaela Farm is seeking to hire a Lead Gardener beginning in February/March of 2015. Michaela Farm is a small farm in Oldenburg, Indiana, owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Francis, that raises grass fed beef, free range chickens and has gardens with a variety of food plants. Michaela Farm uses all natural farming methods. The goal is to produce quality products using methods that show a care and concern for the preservation of the Earth. Michaela Farm seeks employees that respect and cooperate with that philosophy. The candidate must have organic gardening knowledge and skills to take on the position.

The ideal candidate is responsible for: Planning for crops, purchasing seeds and needed supplies; Tilling, seeding, planting, weeding and harvesting; Maintaining garden related records and history; Maintaining garden tools; Collaborating with the Farm Manager on soil care and irrigation; Preparing daily work schedule for seasonal worker(s) and occasional volunteers; Preparing produce for various markets; Organizing/seeking out sales of produce to various markets including the Michaela Farm CSA; Maintaining sales records

This is a full time position with the gardener working generally week days but some weekend work may be necessary. Salary will be negotiated with the individual. Housing and transportation is not supplied.
