Overview

Seeking a part-time programs assistant (15 to 20 hours/week) to help author, Anna Lappé, with her 2010 nationwide speaking tour and campaign about food and climate change as well as to help with her ongoing advocacy work, media, and foundation work with Small Planet Fund. The programs assistant will work closely with and report to Anna Lappé and tasks will range from managing the office to developing creative ways to promote messages about food justice and sustainability and her new book, Diet for a Hot Planet (Bloomsbury 2010).

Requirements

Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Calendar, WordPress, all essential. Familiarity with publicity and event planning a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with a diverse range of people. Self-starter who can work well with little supervision and also follow through with directives. Resourcefulness, punctuality, reliability, and dependability. Knowledge about and passion for the food justice movement is essential. Must be comfortable with online communications, including blogging, web updates (via a program like WordPress), Facebook networking, etc.

Must have own computer and cell phone, be available during business hours and occasionally in the evenings (specific hours are flexible), and be located in New York City. Offices are located in Boerum Hill & Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.
